Director of Youth and Family Ministries

    Position: King of Glory Lutheran Church — Dallas, Texas
    The Director of Youth and Family Ministry is responsible for the visioning, leadership, and implementation of all educational, fellowship and service activities of the congregation for youth 6th-12th grade and their families. This position will also have oversight of staff for Children’s Ministry (birth through 5 th grade).

    Specific responsibilities:

    General Leadership

    • Worship, planning and general leadership with staff and congregation
    • Participate in and lead special services such as Advent, Lent and confirmation
    • Participate in education and teaching opportunities
    • Coordinate ministry needs within staff and membership
    • Develop a team of members to support ministry areas. See YMAT below.

    Senior High Youth Ministry Leadership

    • Oversee and implement youth ministry programming, including but not limited to Sunday School, fellowship, service and mission programs and events.
    • Ensure that all curriculum, program and event content flows from the King of Glory Vision, is consistent with Lutheran heritage, and YM Mission Statement.
    • Evaluate existing programs and events, improve on what is working and revamp or replace those that are weak.
    • Propose, lead and evaluate new opportunities for youth to connect, learn, serve, and lead.
    • Communicate Youth Ministry plans, goals and successes to youth, parents and the congregation.
    • Create and implement programs and events that help youth transition and thrive in their post high school endeavors.
    • Plan, promote and participate in an annual summer mission trip.
    • Plan, promote and participate in an annual Discipleship Camp experience.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise leaders and volunteers for Sr. High Sunday School and youth activities.

    Junior High Youth Ministry Leadership

    • Oversee the confirmation program by building and maintaining the curriculum and process. In consultation with the Senior Pastor, assure Confirmation activities and teachings are consistent with the Lutheran (ELCA) tradition and doctrinal heritage and KOG community.
    • Provide confirmation leadership for adult volunteers and students during the school year.
    • Recruit, train, and supervise leaders and volunteers for Jr. High Sunday School, confirmation and youth activities.
    • Plan, promote and participate in an annual summer mission trip.
    • Plan, promote and participate in an annual Discipleship Camp experience.

    Provide for “Ministry of Presence”

    • Model an inviting, safe, joyful attitude and work to create learning and fellowship environments with the same characteristics.
    • Reach out to:

    • Youth who are not active in Youth Ministry, inviting participation or connection to King of Glory in other venues.
    • Youth who are active in Youth Ministry, encouraging continued and deepened involvement.

    • Ensure that most programming is welcoming to friends, acquaintances and visitors and encourage youth to invite non-KOG members to participate.
    • Develop personal and mutually supportive relationships with parents of youth and congregation members who interact with youth on a regular basis and work to encourage development of Christian relationships between those adults and youth.

    Family Ministry Leadership

    • Provide oversight of the work and ministry of the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and the Family Ministry Administrative Assistant.
    • Nurture the communication process in order to keep youth, parents, volunteers and members informed and connected at all stages and ages.
    • Develop programs and procedures to invite, encourage and support parents and adult volunteers with the goal of increasing commitment and participation of adults at all levels.
    • Cultivate cross-generational opportunities for youth and congregation.


    • Recruit and lead an ongoing Youth Ministry Advisory Team (YMAT) to function as advocates and partners in visioning and feedback.
    • Maintain records of all program activities as well as active and inactive youth, visitors and volunteers.
    • Develop, maintain and manage the Youth Ministry budget.
    • Attend and actively participate in regular meetings as scheduled by Sr. Pastor.
    • Participate in study and Continuing Education programs and events.


    • Strongly prefer candidates with Masters of Divinity or Master of Arts in Theology with youth and family emphasis or equivalent degree.
    • Education and/or work experience with full communion partners of the ELCA required. 

    Reporting Structure

    • The Director for Youth and Family Ministry will report to the Senior Pastor.
